Using an IRS IP PIN to file your taxes

If you’ve been issued an IRS Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN), you’ll need it to successfully file your tax return.

How to get your IRS IP PIN: Log Into Your IRS Account

  • Go to www.IRS.gov and sign in or create an account

  • On your home page at www.IRS.gov: go to Profile >> Identity Protection PIN

  • Note: The IRS issues a new IP PIN each year, so make sure you’re using the most recent one.
